Periodontics
Report
Periodontics is the medical practice of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of periodontal disease and other gum and bone disorders and the placement of dental implants. Gingivitis is an infection of the gums caused by the bacteria in plaque. The gums may become red, swollen, and/or bleed during brushing.
Periodontal Procedures
Report
When healthy, your bone and gum tissue should fit snugly around your teeth. Untreated periodontal disease will destroy these supporting tissues causing the development of deep pockets around the teeth. Your periodontist may recommend a bone graft to replace some of the lost support allowing the teeth to be retained.
Dental Implants
Report
Implants are metal (titanium) anchors surgically placed into the jaw to hold permanent replacement teeth. Your bone will grow around this anchor and eventually attach to it to create a highly stable support. This bone attachment takes about two to six months. An implant looks and functions like a natural tooth.
Tissue Grafts
Report
Exposed tooth roots are the result of gum recession, which occurs for a variety of reasons including aggressive tooth brushing or periodontal disease. You may want to enhance your smile by covering the roots that make your teeth appear too long. Your motivation for covering the roots may also be because of the sensitivity on hot and cold liquids.
