I used to do my own taxes and when I ran into problems I would call the IRS for help and advice. That is like calling the prosecutor for advice on your defense. The IRS is not responsible for poor or even wrong advice they give out.

I received a letter from the IRS about my federal tax refund regarding an error on my self-prepared taxes. I was confused and worried. I figured I better turn to a tax expert to see if they could help me figure it out.
