Beautiful Rugs
I was about seven years old when my family moved from southern Iran to city of Isfahan in central Iran. We used to go to a village west of Isfahan to stay there for the summer. One day we visited our next door neighbor, and I saw several ladies singing songs and weaving rugs. I was fascinated by that so I stayed the whole day with them and visited them just about every day till we returned to Isfahan.

During my childhood after school I spent some time in Esfahan's rug trade center and learned about rugs. I moved to the United States in 1986, and as I noticed the big market for Persian rugs, I chose to be a rug merchant. In 2004 due to back pain I retired and closed my rug shop in Chicago.

The tradition of rug weaving in Iran started more than 2,500 years ago. Since that time traditional Persian rugs are among Persia's most valuable works of art. The Persian carpet reached its zenith during the reign of Shah Abbas (1588-1629) who fostered commerce and crafts.

Shah Abbas moved the capital of Persia to Isfahan, which became one of the most glorious cities of Persia, and he established rug workshops where skilled designers and craftsmen set to work to create splendid specimens. The skill and craft of rug weaving in Persia has been passed down from generation to generation for many centuries in Iran.
