Academics & Research
Report
Academics and research are an integral part of Upstate Orthopedics. Our practice, in conjunction with the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Upstate Medical University, has trained many of the orthopedic surgeons practicing throughout Central New York today.

Each year, we compete with medical schools around the nation to attract and recruit five orthopedic residents and two fellows (hand and spine) to Syracuse to complete their training at Upstate Orthopedics (SUNY Upstate Medical University).We also recruit additional faculty each year to further our clinical, teaching, and research goals.

Hand Fellowship
Report
The goal of our Hand Fellowship Program is to train the Fellow in all aspects of hand surgery. The applicant must have completed an approved residency in orthopaedic or plastic surgery. The purpose is to help the Fellow develop an understanding of surgical and medical management of musculoskeletal problems of the entire upper extremity.
Spine Fellowship
Report
To develop the physician's knowledge and surgical techniques for treating diseases of the spine. To provide experience in conducting appropriate research in the laboratory and/or clinical setting. To demonstrate an ability to transmit information to other professionals through education and dissemination of research results.
