From our humble beginnings in the 1970's as a precursor to the now ubiquitos "copy shop", Midtown Printing has grown to be Nashville's short-run printing leader. Always at the forefront of printing technology, we have also held on to technology of the past. Utilizing our state of the art digital equipment and antique letterpress puts us at an advantage to serve a wide range of customer needs.
We also house a full service finishing and bindery department to produce everything from perfect bound books to t-shirt transfers. Today, Midtown Printing has one location in the Skyline area of East Nashville. We have built a reputation for being Nashville's premier digital printing company, utilizing state of the art equipment such as the Xeikon 8500 digital web press and HP 7900 Indigo press.

Letterpress Printing
Report
Prior to the 20th century letterpress printing was the dominant form of reproduction. From the time of Gutenburg until the beginning of the 20th century there was no other process for reproduction short of hand copying manuscripts. Around the same time as Gutenberg, engraving started to gain popularity in the art world with Masters Albrecht Drer and Martin Schongauer producing works rivaling paintings.
Emboss / Deboss
Report
Embossing is to raise an image up above the surface of the paper whereas debossing pushes the image down into the surface of the paper. Both techniques provide tactile qualities as well as visual shadow lines that subtly enhance the look and feel of an object. Either process can have color or can be blind i.e. without color.
Post Print and bindery
Report
After a job has been printed, whether it was offset, digital, letterpress or engraved, it still has to be processed to its final configuration. This usually begins by cutting the press sheets down to their final size. If the product is a book the bindery department will then collate and saddle stitch, perfect bind or spiral bind the items.
File Preparation
Report
File preparation can sometimes be the vast territory separating the graphic designer from the printer. We've given it some though and have simplified the process into an easy to remember acronym - FIBS. This stands for Fonts, Images, Bleed and Spellcheck. Let's quickly go over these four points. We need these to make your artwork look like it does on your screen.
