Hearing is far more complicated than sounds traveling into your ears. It involves sound vibrations that are received by the outer ear. Once received, these vibrations move through the ear canal to the eardrum, ultimately making their way to the middle and inner ear. Inside the inner ear, tiny hair cells (nerves) are stimulated to send electrical impulses to the brain.
