In support of biodiversity conservation, Hawaii Wildlife Center provides expertise for rescue, state-of-the-art veterinary care and rehabilitation of native winged wildlife. The Hawai'i Wildlife Center (HWC) is a state- and region-wide 501(c)(3) nonprofit wildlife response and conservation organization.
We provide medical and rehabilitative care to all species of native birds and the Hawaiian hoary bat, along with contingency planning, emergency response, training, research assistance, and more. HWC serves all major and minor Hawaiian Islands, extending to Midway and Kure Atoll. Our main facility is located in Kapa'au, on Hawai'i Island and we have satellite operations on O'ahu and Lana'i along with partner projects throughout the state.

Wildlife Rescue & Transport
Report
The Hawai'i Wildlife Center works with partners throughout the state for neighbor island patient drop-offs and stabilization. Our Wheels for Wildlife volunteer ground transport team and Wings for Wildlife volunteer air transport team also enable our staff to expedite the response process throughout the state.
Emergency Response
Report
The Hawai'i Wildlife Center is the first and only facility in the Pacific Islands equipped with the facilities and expertise to respond to wildlife affected by oil spills, disease outbreaks and natural disasters. Since Hawai'i is an isolated island archipelago, the majority of its native terrestrial vertebrate life is avian.
Oahu Seabird Aid Program
Report
Since 2017, the Hawai'i Wildlife Center has provided aid to downed seabirds on O'ahu during the peak of seabird fallout season. Once seabirds are downed they need human assistance to return to flight or else they are highly vulnerable to predation, starvation, or vehicle strike. The island of Oahu typically sees several hundred downed seabirds each year.
