Gulf of Mexico waters are warming up locally. Our fish are moving into the deeper water. The fishing action has been good in the 50 - 65 ft for our Gag Grouper. And the Kingfish action has been red hot! Mangrove Snappers have just arrived, holding onto specific rock piles. Red Snapper open up off shore where we target them and big Red Grouper over the hard, flat bottom.
We will also catch Vermillion Snapper, Mangrove Snapper and Lane Snapper. Quite often we have schooling Mahi Mahi come right to the boat, where we get to pick and choose the ones we like to get on our 12 hour trips. This is in water depth 95 - 115 ft. The Reef Chief Charters captain, Mike Teegarden, grew up in Florida fishing the beautiful waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Grouper - We catch grouper year-round. They're bottom dwellers that prefer live bait in the summer on the bottom and frozen bait in the winter, such as Boston mackerel and sardines. Kingfish & Bonito - Spring, summer and fall are the times to catch kingfish. They can be caught on live bait but love a sardine, free-lined 30 yards away from the boat.

If weather is bad the customer has the option of rescheduling the trip or canceling the trip with deposit refunded. Yes, the customer is always welcome to bring their own fishing pole but the captain also supplies custom made fishing poles for each charter. The captain recommends that the customer take Dramamine, Bonine or Antivert at night time just before bedtime, regardless of instructions on the bottle.
