The black color accelerates the melting process. Asphalt is a better surface in the Utah climate because of its flexibility during the freeze thaw process. Unlike concrete it can be relayered and is less expensive. Patching holes and sealing cracks is very important. If left unattended, water will penetrate through the cracks into the base layer causing potholes and further erosion to your asphalt.
