The Pauline S. Schneegas Wildlife Foundation (PSSWF) is located in rural Garfield County near the town of Silt. We rehabilitate all species of wildlife (except bats and skunks) and provide educational programs to schools, clubs, groups, and businesses. We primarily serve Garfield, Mesa, Pitkin, Eagle, and Rio Blanco counties, but also take in wildlife from all over the state for care and rehabilitation.

We are one of only a handful of rehabilitation centers in Western Colorado. PSSWF works closely with, but is NOT funded by Colorado Parks and Wildlife, US Fish and Wildlife Service, or local government or animal control departments. The Foundation accepts all species of wildlife brought in by public agencies as well as by private citizens.
Services
Rehabilitation
Report
PSSWF provides quality care for injured and orphaned wildlife of all species (except skunks). We are licensed to take care of threatened and endangered species and specialize in bears and mountain lions. Having an on-site veterinary facility allows the care process to begin immediately. Our rehabilitators are medically trained and certified to treat injuries and assist with more complicated procedures that may be necessary.
Educational Animals
Report
Unfortunately, some wild animals are kept illegally as pets by people and are unable to be released into the wild once they come into our care. Other exotic animals are not properly cared for and/or are dumped out in the wild to fend for themselves. PSSWF has a number of resident educational wild and exotic animals that are used as ambassadors for their species.
Tour
Report
Tours of the Foundation are available by appointment, preferably with at least a week's notice. Most of our tours are on weekend mornings, but we can occasionally do a tour on another day depending on volunteer availablility. We ask a donation of $10 per person to help recoup some of the cost of the insurance policy that allows us to do our programs.
Events

Fawn/Elk Calf
Report
Please consult with a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) officer, or animal control officer before intervening! Under Colorado law, it is illegal to possess any species of wildlife without a license. This is where licensed rehabilitators like us come in!

In addition to being licensed to take care of wildlife, we have the ability to provide injured and orphaned wildlife with the best nutrition, appropriate medical care, and are usually able to pair them with their own kind so they can thrive and learn proper behaviors for their species. It is legal, however, for the general public to capture an injured wild animal and transport it to a willing veterinarian, CPW, or licensed rehabilitator.
