I am Captain Alan, founder and owner/operator of York River Charters. I grew up here on the York River in the small fishing and farming community of Croaker, Virginia (Yes, it really was named after the delectable fish!). After serving my final assignment in the U.S. Navy, I returned to the area.
I've since spent the majority of my life meandering the waters of the Chesapeake Bay and it's tributaries with the exception of time spent fishing and enjoying the marine offerings of North Carolina's Outer Banks.Since starting operations in April of 2011, York River Charters has provided an intimate small boat experience for those seeking both fishing and sightseeing charters.

In our opinion, Cobia charters are the closest our inshore fishing guests can come to enjoying an offshore type experience! While waiting for a Cobia to take a bait, the best thing you can do is relax in the company of your friends and family, and enjoy being on the Chesapeake Bay.
However, when one of these monsters start running with a bait, you hear the reel screaming, and your Captain announce "FISH ON!"; HOLD ON for one of the most exciting fights of your life!Chesapeake Bay Cobia fishing season usually starts heating up in June and runs into late September.

Many York River Charters guests enjoy stalking their prey by sight-casting lures, live, and dead baits from the tower while aboard our open express sportfisher, Current Addiction.
Trolling

Trolling lures and dead baits is one of the methods our guests can choose to fish. Some of the species we target by trolling include trophy striped bass (stripers, rockfish), bluefish, red drum and Spanish mackerel. Luckily for our guests, all of these fish are great table fare. For those who have had less than satisfactory results with bluefish dishes, ask Capt.
