About Us
Report
Montessori at Sandy Ford is the oldest established, private, secular school in the Catawba Valley, celebrating over 30 years of education, serving children ages 3-14. The 2011-2012 school year marked the inaugural year in the new location on Sandy Ford Road. The 5 acre campus is ideal due to its rural setting, environmental-study opportunities, greater visibility to the public, and proximity to a greater number of potential students.

Depending on individual readiness, Montessori students generally surpass the expectations of the state curriculum because the Montessori materials and the one-on-one attention allow them to progress at a rapid yet thorough pace.A: Our curriculum is carefully structured and the teachers maintain thorough records of each student's academic development.

The students are graduates of Montessori Children's House of Newton, our school's name prior to moving to our new location in 2011-2012. The parents on the Panel have students currently enrolled at Montessori at Sandy Ford. We apologize for the quality, but we wanted it to be a candid discussion, and it is definitely candid!

The hand is the chief teacher of the child. In order to learn there must be concentration. The best way a child can concentrate is by fixing his attention on some task he is performing with his hands. All the materials in the classroom invite the child to use his hands for learning.
Materials are graded from simple to complex and are introduced sequentially, thus the child integrates new concepts into his present body of knowledge and builds on his previous experiences. For example, he may grade rods that differ only in length from shortest to longest; then go on to grade rods that vary in length and width.
