Community Ceramics Studio in New Orleans
Byrdies is a 501(c)(3) non-profit community ceramics studio established in 2010 in New Orleans' Marigny neighborhood. We provide equitable access to ceramic arts through educational classes, studio memberships, and a retail space showcasing member-created work. Our mission emphasizes community building through clay arts, offering programs like the BIPOC Fellowship and Black Pottery Night to foster inclusivity.

Ceramics Classes
We offer diverse ceramics education from single-session introductions to 8-week courses. Our programs cater to all skill levels, with specialized offerings like Black Pottery Night and BIPOC Fellowship opportunities. Classes provide hands-on experience with professional equipment and expert instruction in a community-focused environment.
Studio Membership
Our membership program grants unlimited access to professional ceramics equipment and glazes. Designed for experienced artists, it supports creative development through 24/7 studio access and community networking. Members benefit from retail opportunities and participation in our socially conscious artistic ecosystem.
Handmade Pottery Shop
Our storefront features handmade ceramics created by 15+ local artists. The shop showcases diverse styles including wheel-thrown mugs, sculptural pieces, and functional wares. All items are available for in-store purchase with gift card options supporting local artistic endeavors.

Can I purchase clay materials?
Clay is available exclusively to Byrdies members and enrolled students since October 2025 for sustainability reasons.
How do gift cards work?
Gift cards are valid for in-store pottery purchases only and never expire. Recipients receive email confirmation with their card details.
What are your current hours?
We're open Fridays 3-6 PM, Saturdays 12-6 PM, and Sundays 12-6 PM for retail shopping.

We stayed at an AirBnB right next to this studio and this was my favorite place in the neighborhood! They are open a lot more than Yelp says -- often in the late morning & noon because it's open whenever someone is working in the studio. I got a pair of beautiful matching cup and bowl set. Everything is unique, handmade, and affordable (average 15-35 per item), with a wide selection of ceramic mugs, bowls, and even some planters. So cool that they are a nonprofit studio so they can make pottery classes accessible!

This place was absolutely adorable and I enjoyed my time here. I stayed for a few hours, had tea and a soup/sandwich combo. The staff was personable, helpful and flexible. The ambiance is unique and inviting. I highly recommend coming and patronizing this place. I have removed one star, because the coffee and food prep area was disorganized and strangely laid out. Because of this there was awkward/time consuming fussing involved in performing basic tasks that I would not have expected from an established business. Fix that and they've got a 5.

Best cappuccino in town! Stop in for lunch. The sandwiches are spectacular and so cheap. Hummus on grilled cheese?! Freaking genius

Byrdie's is one of those delightfully quirky Spots that keeps the spirit of New Orleans alive instead of squashing it with a sterile atmosphere and IKEA furniture. With mismatched furniture, a record player gently wafting WWOZ into the room, and friendly baristas, Byrdie's is a good place to come for a quiet moment. There's an adjoining art gallery that patrons enter and exit through which always has interesting local art. There's also a pottery studio in the back.
They've got great sandwiches made fresh to order. They also make their tea to order with loose leaf teas
