Our organizations are responsible for providing high quality water and wastewater utility services for the Greater Williamsport, Pennsylvania area.

History
Report
The Williamsport Water Company was first organized in 1856. The company changed ownership many times. In 1864 it became the Lycoming Gas and Water Company. In 1879 it became the Citizens' Gas and Water Company. In 1884 control was passed to the Williamsport Water Company. In 1927 the company was sold to Community Water Service Company of New York City.
Current Rates
Report
All Property Owners shall pay a charge for water service as provided by current Rules and Regulations. Municipalities will be billed time and material for: new hydrant installations, relocations of existing hydrants, repairs or replacements of damaged or destroyed hydrants. The Authority will repair all hydrants becoming inoperative due to normal operation at no cost to the municipality.

A rotten-egg odor in some well water (not WMWA-supplied water) is caused by a smelly chemical - hydrogen sulfide - dissolved in the water. Algae and tiny fungi which grow in surface water sources may give off nontoxic chemicals that may cause discernible tastes and odors in drinking water. Different algae cause different tastes and odors such as - grassy, swampy, or fishy, for example- and other certain fungi can cause an earthy-musty taste.

Located in the pristine and beautiful mountain valley of the Mosquito Creek Watershed near the Williamsport Municipal Water Authority Filtration Plant, the historic Waterdale Lodge is the center for a cooperative collaboration of public water supply utilities, academic resources, and local and state conservation agencies and organizations.

The Williamsport Municipal Water Authority (WMWA) provides water service to the Greater Williamsport Area, serving approximately 51,000 customers. The primary source of supply is surface water from the Mosquito Creek and Hagermans Run watersheds on land primarily owned and controlled by the WMWA. A wellfield supply near Lycoming Creek supplements the surface supplies with groundwater as needed.
