Kaleidoscope Pottery
For over thirty-five years Kaleidoscope Pottery has crafted high quality, one-of-a-kind, functional stoneware pottery dinnerware. Each piece of lead-free, dishwasher safe Leafware is created by hand in our small studio in Western Massachusetts. The leaves used for the designs are picked from local gardens and the surrounding area; we use over thirty varieties of leaves.

The process involves using the actual leaf impressions, making each piece unique.

Are those real leaves? Yes, we use real leaves on every piece of Kaleidoscope Pottery, and no leaf is ever re-used. What you see in the clay is only the impression made by the leaf. The leaf is always removed after being pressed into the clay. Do the leaves burn out in the kiln?

No, the leaves must be removed before firing because the slip (a liquid clay, which is sprayed over the leaf-impressed piece to make the background color) would otherwise form a hard ceramic surface after the leaf burns out.Is wax resist used in the process? No, the leaf is the only thing that masks the clay.

Pottery takes time to make, time to dry, time to fire. If we have a piece you desire in stock it can usually ship within a week. Otherwise it will depend on what you want and what leaves are available. We thank you for understanding our process sometimes takes more than a few weeks as the pieces go through many steps (and two firings!) from lump of clay to finished product.
