Dr. Edward Dudley Tibbits established Hoosac School to provide an intimate, highly personalized educational setting in which each student could receive individualized attention and support. Today, the School's essential mission remains true to its founder's philosophy: to develop the character, spirit, mind, and body of its students, to foster independence and self-discipline, and to motivate them to develop to their full potential for success in college and for full, productive, and intelligent lives.

It is Hoosac's mission to develop enthusiastic learners with creative minds and strong moral compasses who are ready to handle college and life with intelligence and grace. Hoosac School was founded as an Episcopal church school in 1889 by Dr. Edward Dudley Tibbits, on land owned by his family. There were 19 students enrolled at Hoosac that year, with VI Formers graduating in the Class of 1890.

Hoosac School is an Episcopal private boarding school situated on a 350-acre campus in Hoosick, New York. The campus is the site of the former Tibbits family estate, adjoining the 850-acre Tibbits State Forest. Tibbits Hall, a brownstone Gothic style mansion constructed in 1860, houses administrative offices and a boys' dormitory.
