Members of the Michigan Cable Telecommunications Association offer television, phone services, and broadband, with high-speed cable connections. We're leading the way. The Michigan Cable Telecommunications Association represents the interests of the cable telecommunications industry in Michigan. Member companies represent approximately 85 percent of Michigan's cable subscribers.

MCTA associate members include cable networks and businesses related to the cable industry. The MCTA provides information to state legislators and the news media on the issues important to the cable industry and serves as a clearinghouse of information for its members. The association also produces and distributes Michigan specific public affairs programming with the cooperation and resources of all member cable systems.

The Michigan Cable Telecommunications Association was established in 1981 by a group of cable television companies in the state. The goal was to provide a united presence in the Michigan Legislature and before the Michigan Public Service Commission. Regular meetings also helped shape best practices in the industry, which deals with many levels of government - local, state and federal.

The Michigan Cable Telecommunications Association represents the cable television and telecommunications industry in the Michigan Legislature and Michigan Public Service Commission on issues affecting our businesses and customers, and fosters a positive image of the cable industry in Michigan.

MCTA staff and members meet regularly with lawmakers and regulators to ensure they have complete information about legislation and regulations that affect our industry.MCTA maintains a political action committee, providing members with the ability to assist in the democratic process.

Matt Groen is the executive director of the Michigan Cable Telecommunications Association. He has worked on key legislation affecting the cable industry in our state, including access rate restructuring and multiple rewrites of the Michigan Telecommunications Act. Prior to joining the MCTA, Matt served for six years as manager of legislative affairs at the Michigan Restaurant Association.

MCTA members serve 2 million customers in all 83 Michigan counties - about 85 percent of all cable customers. The cable industry pays more than $80 million annually in franchise fees to local governments.

MCTA members are also the primary funders of Michigan Government Television (MGTV), a non-partisan cable television network that provides live and taped coverage of all branches of Michigan government without commentary, analysis or editing for content, which means that viewers see everything on the record.
