Trusted Family-Owned Lumber & Millwork Supplier in Averill Park, NY
Valente Lumber has been a family-owned and operated sawmill, lumber yard, and millwork shop since 1925. Founded by Italian immigrant Antonio Valente in Taborton, New York, the business transitioned to Averill Park after a fire destroyed the original mill in 1941. Over four generations, the Valente family has specialized in working with Eastern White Pine, Red Pine, Hemlock, Oak, and other hardwoods, adapting to industry changes while maintaining a commitment to quality. The company evolved from manual logging with horses and axes to modern automated equipment, serving local contractors, wholesalers, and artisans. Third-generation leaders Louis and Tony Valente expanded operations in the 1950s, while current owners Anthony and Steve Valente continue this legacy. The fourth generation now actively participates in daily operations, ensuring continuity and expertise. Valente Lumber offers custom sawmilling, kiln-dried lumber, barn board, flooring, moldings, and specialty wood products. The business has shifted from industrial uses like hockey sticks to modern applications including pallets, furniture, and construction materials. A dedicated mill shop produces custom wood floors, trim, and paneling, alongside bespoke molding options. With nearly a century of experience, Valente Lumber remains a trusted supplier in the Capital District Area, combining tradition with innovation to meet evolving customer needs.

Met a guy who fell of a lift and hurt his neck. Guy said theres been at least 37 deaths at the place. For a place that caught on fire by itself, you think theyd fix their stuff. Horrible place

I needed a new local mulch delivery place, because the last business we had:
- delivered days late, after repeatedly postponing, with no gracious quick apology
- dumped in a different place than asked
- then when I noted it, the delivery guy barked, "why didn't you tell me!" then told me I'd have it placed in a few hours anyway. (and other rude pieces.
HOWEVER:
VALENTE'S!
- was easy to get ahold of on the phone
- created a time for contact to set up delivery next day
- The man who delivered, Andy, *clarified* the space for placement of the pile; asked about the trees
