Whispering Manes Therapeutic Riding Center is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization offering therapeutic horseback riding and therapeutic horsemanship classes for people with physical, cognitive, and emotional disabilities.
Through safe and supervised individually tailored programs with specialized horses, participants with a wide range of disabilities are given the opportunity to participate in equine assisted activities that promote physical, cognitive, or emotional well-being.Centrally located in Miami-Dade County we serve a community that would otherwise not have access to equine assisted activities.

To benefit children and adults with special needs or disabilities by offering them the opportunity to interact with dedicated horses in a manner that promotes physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. We believe people can develop therapeutic relationships with horses, crossing boundaries of speech and physical disabilities in a way that encourages healing and improved self-esteem.

Originally from Canada, Shawn moved to Miami Beach over a decade ago by way of New Orleans, where he earned an MBA in Marketing and Finance. After working in the Telecom industry in Senior Sales Executive positions for MCI and Global Crossing Shawn decided to follow his true hobby which is Real Estate.

Helen got involved early on with Whispering Manes when, in 2012, she organized a fundraising event to raise awareness and critical funds for the newly established Therapeutic Riding Center. In 2014, she joined the board of directors and is the immediate past chair.
Prior to joining Whispering Manes as Executive Director, Helen was an adjunct professor of business and business communication at Florida International University and Miami Dade College.She has over 25 years of experience in sales and marketing management, business development, project management, and strategic consulting.

Programs
Report
Through EAAT, people with a range of physical, emotional, or cognitive disabilities can develop improved balance, strength and coordination. Additionally, working with the horse leads to an increased sense of confidence, independence and self-esteem. Individuals who participate in EAAT frequently develop a unique relationship with a horse creating a bond based on trust and mutual respect.
Manes and Tales
Report
Manes and Tales is an equine-assisted literacy program for struggling readers of all ages. Based on the successful Horse Powered Reading program, developed by Dr. Michele Pickel, Manes and Tales is an experiential reading program that encourages students to develop and improve their literacy skills through a variety of exercises and interactions with our mini horses.
