Contessi Ballet has been dedicated to classical ballet instruction since 1976, offering training rooted in the Vaganova and Cecchetti methods. Our non-profit studio prioritizes small, technique-focused classes for children and adults of all ages, fostering artistry and technical excellence. We provide comprehensive dance education, including Pointe, Pas de Deux, Contemporary, Tap, and STOTT Pilates, while emphasizing the history and cultural significance of dance. As the North Bay's only non-profit dance studio, we rely on community support to maintain our specialized programs and intimate class sizes. Our instructors include former and current professional dancers who bring real-world expertise to each lesson.Students gain performance experience through annual productions like our full-length Nutcracker and Spring Showcase. Services
Classical Ballet
Our Classical Ballet program follows Vaganova and Cecchetti methods for levels I-VI and Intermediate/Pre-Professional. Students build foundational technique through structured lessons in positions, terminology, and musicality. Advanced classes focus on choreography, strength, and artistic expression while preparing for performances.
Pas de Deux
Pas de Deux instruction teaches partnering techniques for advanced ballet students. Classes cover safe lifts, turns, and choreography while developing trust and synchronization between dancers. This specialized training enhances performance skills for duets in classical productions.
Kinder Ballet
Kinder Ballet introduces children under 5 to ballet fundamentals through playful instruction. Classes teach positions, classroom etiquette, and creative expression while building motor skills and musical awareness in a nurturing environment.
Nutcracker Performances
Our annual Nutcracker production features original choreography and guest artists. Dancers of all levels participate in this full-length classical ballet, gaining stage experience in roles ranging from ensemble to principal characters.
Adult Ballet

(I am only reviewing Contessi's Adult Division classes, not their Youth Division...) Great selection of adult ballet classes, both in the mornings and in the evenings. Classes range from beginner, intermediate, to an advanced company class. They also offer adult pointe, pas de deux (in the company), and allow adults to perform in their twice yearly shows, which is a huge plus! Beautiful studio located in the old Penngrove train depot.
