
The Key West Art Center & Gallery is incorporated as a non-profit organization, devoted to the encouragement of local artists by furnishing them with a central market place for their work. The Center is supported by membership dues and a commission of sales. Here you will find a wide variety of art created by over 50 dedicated local artists from the Florida Keys.

He creates scrimshaw swordfish bills and carves unique pieces from locally felled tropical trees. Painting in oils, Mary Jean captures the brilliantly colored skies, water and scenes of Key West, creating luminous island images. Her focus is capturing the fast disappearing flavor of old Key West and the neighboring Keys.

Since its inception in 1960 the Key West Art Center & Gallery (KWAC) has been a nonprofit membership organization. In addition to the privilege of exhibiting and selling artwork in the gallery, members are expected to support the goals of the Art Center as a community art organization providing resources for artists of all ages through exhibits, classes, lectures, artist demonstrations and special events.

The Art Center has a rich history and has played an ongoing role in Key West's incredible history as an artist community dating back to the Depression Era of the 1930's. The Associate Membership program supports our mission to encourage local artists and bring programs to the public that increase appreciation of the arts.

The Key West Art Center is pleased to offer Exhibiting Artists and Associate Members the opportunity to have either an individual or small group show in accordance with the guidelines below. The guidelines vary slightly, as noted, for shows held during season (November - May) and off-season (June - October).

Each instructional unit is on a monthly basis, but students can sign up for multiple units in advance to reserve spots. Within certain logistical boundaries flexible sign up may be available on a case by case basis. The Key West Art Center is happy to have Lothar Speer return as our figure drawing instructor, via Zoom as a virtual art instructor.
