Dr. Mona Fakih is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and specializes in Women's Health. A native Michigander, she received her bachelor's degree from Wayne State University in Pharmaceutical Sciences and her medical degree from Michigan State University. She completed her internship at Garden City Hospital, and residency at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital Ann Arbor.

Dr. Mariko K. Shelton is an Obstetrics / Gynecology Specialist in Dearborn and Grosse Pointe, Michigan. We welcomed her to our practice in 2020. She received an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Carleton College in Minnesota. Dr. Shelton graduated medical school in 2012 from the prestigious Loyola Stritch School of Medicine, and she completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency in 2016 at St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor.

It can be frightening news if you are told your pap smear was "abnormal". But as long as you receive prompt treatment, there is no need for worry. Every year, more than 3 million women have abnormal or unclear pap smear results - but less than.33 percent ever develop cervical cancer.
Depending on the severity of cervical dysplasia that is found, your gynecologist may require a follow-up pap smear - or she may order a colposcopy (cervical exam) with a biopsy (test for cancerous or precancerous cells).If precancerous cells are found to have built up on the cervix surface, your gynecologist has two treatment options: conization, or LEEP.
