Tony Rinaldi has been teaching martial arts in the Youngstown area for many years, at several different locations. In 2005, Tony decided to open up his own school, teaming up with Brian Mlinarsik. The entrepreneurs formed The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Self Defense Academy, Inc. We opened for business in September of 2005, and we have been going strong ever since.

Our Instructors

Tony has been studying the martial arts for over 25 years. He holds three different black belts. His philosophy is simple: basics, basics, basics. For most of the year, Tony teaches all of the children's classes and adult classes on Wednesday night. The rest of his teaching time is private lessons.

Pedro Sauer

Ohio Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Self-Defense Academy is an affiliate school of Master Pedro Sauer. Master Pedro Sauer will visit our school frequently to meet the new students, put on seminars, and conduct belt promotions. Professor Pedro Sauer was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where from an early age, he began training in the martial arts.
