About Us
Report
The Lewis & Clark Literacy Council (L&CLC) helps adults and their families acquire the reading, writing, English language, workforce and life skills so that they may have an improved quality of life. The future vision of the Lewis & Clark Literacy Council is for the population of Helena and the surrounding area to be fully literate in their everyday lives; thereby increasing participation within their families, their work and our community.
For Students
Report
English is difficult, but you don't have to learn it on your own. We're here to help. Our free classes and individual tutors can help you learn the reading and English skills you need everyday. Our students are all unique! Some grew up in the U.S. but never fully learned to read and write. Others immigrated to the U.S. and now want to learn English.
For Tutors
Report
Volunteer tutors teach English and basic academic skills. English learners want to know how to read, write, speak, and understand English. Depending on the student, a tutor might focus on a specific goal such as studying for the written drivers test or the citizenship exam, or a tutor might teach more general English skills including vocabulary, verbs, and U.S. culture.
Resources
Report
There are many ways to learn and many resources to use. If you notice a mistake or have a resource to suggest, please contact Mary: LCLiteracy@gmail.com or 406-324-2111. The purpose of the Adult Learning Center is to provide for the literacy needs of adults in the community. Literacy is defined as the individual's ability to apply reading, writing, and computational skills to a career and to everyday life.
Give the gift of literacy
Report
These are all real struggles for adults with low literacy or limited English. Through the Lewis & Clark Literacy Council, you can offer them a helping hand: a chance to learn the words and questions they need to know everyday. Literacy and language - reading, writing, speaking, listening - permeate our daily lives and affect everything from health to employment to friendship.
