We are a traditional overnight camp for boys, ages 7-15, established in 1959 and located in Mentone, Alabama. Today's world is becoming more complex each day. Children are exposed to many different lifestyles and values and must choose among them. At Camp Laney we emphasize sportsmanship, teamwork, honesty, perseverance, truthfulness, loyalty, thoughtfulness, and kindness.
Our staff and program are directed toward helping each boy understand the importance of these values which will, in turn, help them lead a happier, richer, and more fulfilling life. Camp will provide your son with some of his most exciting boyhood memories. He will talk about his adventures for years to come.

Our Story
Report
Coach Malcolm Laney founded Camp Laney in 1959. He was the head football coach at Woodlawn High School in Birmingham, AL from 1934-1943. During that time his teams won seven city championships and five state championships. He was an assistant coach at the University of Alabama from 1944 to 1957. When Coach Bryant was named head football coach, Coach Laney and the other assistants were looking for jobs.
Why Laney
Report
The aim of the camp staff is to steadfastly uphold these objectives and to give each boy personal attention and guidance. In turn, the campers are expected to be loyal, truthful and honest, and to demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times. It is our further hope that at the end of the camp session, Camp Laney will return to you a happy boy who has had a safe, fun, and adventurous experience, and has advanced in the art of Christian living.
Camp Program & Schedule
Report
Boys are divided into eight different activity groups by age and grade in school. Each group of campers follows its own daily schedule. Horseback, Waterfront, Adventure Sports, Project Adventure (challenge course), Tennis, Team Sports, and Swimming are daily activities. Archery and Riflery meet every other day.
Age Based
Report
While many of the activities stay the same throughout the course of a campers' years at Laney, the program grows with the camper, challenging older boys to take on new roles and responsibilities as they mature. The Junior Camp Sessions are very similar to the Two Week Sessions, however, boys do not attend dances and have their own special night activities, including a Tribe Competition and Campfire.
Faith and Community
Report
Just as God's grace is available to all, Camp Laney is open to all boys. We are a Christian camp and emphasize values found in most faiths - love, compassion, humility, gratitude, and forgiveness. We welcome campers of all faiths to experience the fun and friendships that Camp Laney offers. It is our hope that when a camper leaves us at the end of the session he feels like the Camp Laney experience has become an important part of his life.

Both my boys attended Camp Laney until they aged out. I can honestly say that they both loved it! Both boys went at least one year each not knowing another camper, and still had a terrific time. I can say it was tough on me, not being in touch with them ( neither wrote home , I finally learned if they needed me, the camp would call). While it is expensive, especially with 2 there at the same time I can honestly say, we as a family could never pack so much in 2 weeks. It presented them with new opportunities, new friends, new foods, you get where I'm headed here. My boys both had RX they had to

I spent two weeks at camp Laney at the age of twelve, that was in 1973 or '74. I remember having a great time at crafts and playing in the river, canoeing and swimming. I got a little homesick and members of the staff consoled me and made me feel better. I loved the sense of freedom I had there.
I went to my first dance there and was petrified to ask a girl to dance. With a little prodding from my counselor I overcame that fear and was able to ask a pretty young girl to dance. I remember that I was on top of the world after that night with a newly found sense of confidence.

I spent at least a portion of every summer at Camp Laney from the time I was 8 until I was 21. Unless you've experienced how fun it is to attend and work at camp, it's very hard to describe its greatness. I would encourage all parents to give their sons the opportunity to spend time at Camp Laney. It's a great combination of excellent people and facilities. Thank you Rob and Whitney for all you do to create life-long memories and friendships.
