Located in St. Paul, Nelson Cheese & Deli is a manufacturer and purveyor of fine foods from all over the midwest. Our story begins in the mid 1850s. Hubert Greenheck, great-grandfather of Edward Greenheck, Nelson's current and fifth generation cheesemaker.
Hubert, his son Arnold, and Arnold's son Albert farmed the green, rolling hills of Bear Valley in southwestern Wisconsin. In 1858 the first cheese factory was opened, and the practice of gathering milk from neighboring farms to make cheese at the local factory began. In 1980 Greg Greenheck, son of Francis, brought this rich tradition of handmade cheeses to the Saint Paul area.
