Lagniappe Hearing
Our Audiologist became interested in hearing loss when her brother was unable to enlist in military service due to his hearing loss. Dr. Ponthier opened Lagniappe Hearing to offer hearing services to the people of central Louisiana. She wants to help improve the quality of life and relationships through better hearing.

Pronounced lan-yap, lagniappe means "something extra." Dr. Ponthier chose to name her practice Lagniappe Hearing to let her patients know that she will always go above and beyond. Dr. Ponthier believes that improved hearing goes beyond simple communication; it helps patients reconnect with loved ones and improves their quality of life.

Hearing
Report
Hearing is an important part of our daily life. In fact, healthy hearing contributes to our overall health. More than 48 million Americans have some degree of hearing loss, but adults wait an average of seven years before seeking help for their hearing loss. Untreated hearing loss can worsen as well as contribute to other and potentially serious health conditions.
Hearing Loss Causes
Report
Noise exposure is a leading cause of hearing loss. It usually develops gradually and may go unnoticed until it has progressed to a point where treatment options are limited. There are steps you can take now to prevent hearing loss down the road. Some types of hearing loss are unavoidable. That which occurs with aging (presbycusis) can't be halted, but regular hearing tests can detect problems early, before they worsen.
Types of Hearing Loss
Report
In order to diagnose hearing loss, your doctor will review your medical history, discuss your symptoms, and give you a physical examination followed by a hearing evaluation consisting of a series of audiological tests. A conductive hearing loss occurs when there are problems in the outer ear, ear canal, eardrum or middle ear.
Hearing Test
Report
Hearing loss is progressive, and often comes on so gradually you are unaware of a problem until it has reached an advanced stage. The sooner you recognize an impairment, the more effective a solution will be. Catching hearing loss early can enable you to continue with the lifestyle you are accustomed to.
