Compassionate Psychiatry Services in Omaha, NE
As a practicing psychiatrist with over two decades of experience, I founded my private practice in Omaha, Nebraska, in 2009 to provide personalized mental health care free from corporate influence. My practice focuses on integrating psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and psychotherapy to address complex mental health needs. With board certification in general psychiatry and academic experience as a clinician-educator, I specialize in treating mood disorders, anxiety, LGBTQ+ mental health, and trauma. My commitment to patient autonomy and quality care drives my advocacy for physician well-being and gender-affirming treatment approaches. I prioritize collaborative care, often coordinating with primary care providers and psychotherapists to ensure comprehensive treatment plans. My clinical expertise includes managing treatment-resistant cases, chronic pain, and dual diagnosis conditions. I maintain active involvement in organized medicine while balancing clinical work with political engagement. Telepsychiatry services expand accessibility for patients seeking specialized care. My practice philosophy emphasizes work-life balance, burnout prevention, and kink-friendly therapeutic environments. I continually refine my approach to incorporate evidence-based practices in psychopharmacology and psychotherapeutic techniques.

Services
Psychiatric Evaluation
Comprehensive diagnostic evaluations assess mental health status through clinical interviews and standardized assessments. This service establishes treatment foundations by identifying mood disorders, anxiety conditions, and trauma-related diagnoses. Our evaluations incorporate patient history, current symptoms, and collaborative decision-making for personalized care plans.
Medication Management
Ongoing medication oversight optimizes treatment effectiveness through regular monitoring and dosage adjustments. We specialize in complex psychopharmacology cases, managing mood stabilizers, antidepressants, and antipsychotic medications. This service integrates with psychotherapy for comprehensive treatment of bipolar disorder, depression, and treatment-resistant conditions.
Psychotherapy
Evidence-based therapeutic approaches address anxiety, trauma, and life transitions through individual sessions. Cognitive-behavioral techniques combine with psychodynamic principles to treat PTSD, body dysmorphia, and dissociative disorders. Therapy sessions emphasize patient autonomy in decision-making processes about treatment goals and outcomes.
Telepsychiatry
Secure video consultations provide accessible mental health care for patients preferring remote appointments. This service maintains the same quality standards as in-person visits while offering flexibility for busy professionals and those with mobility challenges. Telehealth platforms ensure confidentiality and continuity of care.
Gender-Affirming Care
Specialized support for transgender and non-binary individuals includes mental health assessments and treatment planning. We provide documentation for medical transitions while addressing anxiety, depression, and social adjustment challenges. Our approach follows WPATH standards of care with compassionate, individualized treatment.

Nice person but is the most irresponsible absent minded doctor I've seen. Good with meds but will send them to the wrong pharmacy or not fill them at all for days. She gave up on me for being abusive, but I'm mentally ill and sometimes lose control. NEVER would I have thought a doctor would give up on a patient. By fumbling my meds she did more harm with me than good.

Hands Down the absolute best phyciatrist in town. She spends time with patients and does not push a bunch of medications at you and send you out the door. She listens and meticulously follows recovery step by step. She saved my life from PPD and continues to help me if needed. She does not put labels on people and works very hard to keep her practice independent from major health networks. She does this so she can continue to practice refined medicine as she was trained to do and not be mandated to practice according to major networks plans, and formularies. This allows her the freedom to individual

Saw her for 5+ years. Realized she was a pill-pusher (she seems to have a philosophy that if a medicine isn't working, just up the dosage - ended up on 2400 mg of a med that made me gain 90 pounds in the process). She's very manipulative and DOES NOT send records to other doctors!!!!! She also verbally attacked my parents in her office and followed them out to the parking lot, continuing to insult and yell at them. Unprofessional and would not recommend.

She has been my provider for over 5 years and she is very smart, not to mention that she has been nominated the Physician of the Year for 2016/2017. Dr. Chesen is very professional and also passionate about womens studies and needs. I have been so fortunate to be able to call her my Psychiatrist (MD) and because she is so knowledgeable and highly recommended, she is extremely busy but will always take care of needs in a very timely manner. Her office manager Michael Hall is very educated in current medical administration policy and insurance practices, he knows what to do and is incredibly understanding
