Our mission is to provide access to justice and protect the critical civil legal rights of low-income individuals and families through representation, systemic advocacy, advice, collaboration, and education. We serve low-income families in 122 of the 169 Connecticut communities (our sister agencies serve areas of greater Hartford and greater New Haven).
Our Clients

We focus our services on people who need us the most and for whom we can make the most difference. Our clients are members of our community. Like most of us, they face challenges - challenges for which having a lawyer can make a world of difference. Yet, with little or no income in the midst of a civil legal crisis, they have no other options for legal representation.
Our Work

Everyone has basic needs from stable affordable housing to medical treatment to food security. Sometimes, legal problems prevent people from meeting those basic needs. We use our legal skills and advocacy to help clients, their families, and their communities solve urgent life problems. We focus on helping our clients secure stable housing, financial security, physical safety, healthcare, education, and personal autonomy.

Because we use the law to help indigent clients meet important life needs, our clients are able to access decent, safe, and affordable housing; safety from domestic violence or other abuse; medical and behavioral health care; a good education for children with disabilities; protection against consumer scams that target the elderly; and protection against illegal discrimination.

CLS employs dedicated attorneys and legal assistants that will provide compassionate, high quality, mission-driven legal services to the most vulnerable people in our community. We are looking to fill five attorney positions with initial assignments in various areas of law and located in different geographical offices throughout Connecticut.
