Saluda Historic Train Depot
We invite you to come in and explore the Saluda Historic Depot, located in Saluda, NC. The Saluda Grade crests at the top of this small mountain village and is the steepest, mainline, standard gauge railroad in the country. You will learn how the depot has been preserved, how you can contribute to this preservation, exhibits that you will see in the museum, and keep up with all of the events at the depot.

Museum is open Thursday through Saturday, 11:00am to 5pm, Sunday, 1pm to 4pm and some holidays. Admission is always free and voluntary donations are appreciated. We are a 501(c)3 non profit and all donations are tax deductible. Donations can be made by mailing to Saluda Historic Depot, PO Box 990, Saluda, NC 28773 or through Paypal.

Saluda Train Tales

Saluda Train Tales is a free monthly event to educate the community about the importance of Saluda's railroad history and the Saluda Grade. These events are held at the Saluda Historic Depot, 32 W Main Street, Saluda, NC 28773. Nettie Sweet, VeeVee Blackshear, and Clara Carter share stories of the Infants and Children's Sanitarium and Baby Hospital started by their Grandparents, Dr. D. Lesesne Smith and wife, Nettie Smith in 1914.

Welcome to our Holiday 2020 fund-raising campaign to raise money for storage shed and lighting in the Depot. We need storage for collectibles, artifacts, and seasonal exhibits and more lighting to present displays more effectively. The Saluda Historic Depot is proud to partner with Our State magazine through their Community Partners program.
Saluda Grade Diorama

The Saluda Grade diorama starts 1/2 mile east of downtown Saluda, continues down the three mile Saluda Grade, and ends at the east end of Melrose which was the staging area for trains running the grade. It is set in 1950 when both diesel and passenger trains ran throughout the Southern Railway system.
