What started as a four store chain, now has over 130 locations in four different states. All of the L.A. Tan locations are networked through a computer interface that allows L.A. Tan patrons to tan at any L.A. Tan salon nation wide.

Tanning takes place in the skin's outermost layer, the epidermis, with special cells called melanocytes. When exposed to UV-B light, melanocytes produce the pigment, melanin. The pinkish melanin travels up through the epidermis and is absorbed by other skin cells. When exposed to UV-A light, melanin oxidizes or darkens.
