A green card is permanent resident status in the U.S. This simply means that you will be able to permanently live in any of the American 50 states.
Green Card through Marriage
Report
A U.S. citizen can petition for legal permanent resident status for his/her spouse who is a foreign national. Spouse of a U.S. citizen is an "immediate relative". Once the bona fides of the marriage are established, an immigrant visa is immediately available for a foreign national spouse. Spouses of legal permanent residents can immigrate under the second preference category along with their dependents.
Conditional Residence Status

If you are married less than two years when your green card is approved, you will receive a conditional green card for two years. Within 90 days before your conditional green card expire, you need to file a petition to remove conditions jointly with your spouse.

If you cannot file a joint petition (for example, you are divorced), you can file a waiver of the joint filing if you can demonstrate (1) extreme hardship if you were deported, (2) you entered into your marriage in good faith but your marriage was terminated other than through death of your spouse, (3) you were battered or subjected to extreeme cruelty perepetrated by your spouse or (4) your spouse was in bigamous relationship and you were subjected to battering or extreme cruelty.
