As you can see in this aerial view there are only a couple of ways you can get to Fort Kent. By the way, the big area in the middle/left of the image is the North Maine Woods. You'll notice there aren't any paved roads. We kind of like it that way, lots of gravel logging roads for hiking, snowmobiling, ATV use and of course hunting and fishing.
US Route 1
Report
U.S. Route 1 is a major north-south U.S. Highway that serves the East Coast of the United States. It runs 2,390 miles (3,846 km) from Key West, Florida, north to Fort Kent, Maine, at the Canadian border. U.S. 1 generally parallels Interstate 95, though it is significantly farther west (inland) between Jacksonville, Florida and Petersburg Virginia.
Snowmobiling
Report
24 hour Maine snowmobile registration service at the police station (one minute from our front door). We are a family owned and operated outdoor recreational dealership, with the motto "Service is the Difference". A 40 year tradition in downtown Fort Kent, we sell and service bikes, scooters, quads and sleds.
Skiing
Report
It snows here first and it snows here last. If you are following the snowplows looking for a place to ski, you won't find a more likely place to get what you are looking for than Aroostook County. There are abundant opportunities for both cross country and downhill skiing. If there is snow on the eastern seaboard.

If you haven't tried our local traditional Buckwheat Pancakes, here's your big chance. What on earth is a ploye? Maine's largest cultural festival celebrating the traditions of the Saint John Valley's French speaking population. A local delicacy, "the truffle of the north Maine woods". Bring your canoe or kayak and join the locals along the riverbeds in the annual "hunt" for this delicious edible fern.
