Louisiana Karate Association (LKA) was founded in 1961 and is the oldest Karate club in Louisiana. In March of 1965, the first graduate of Japan Karate Association Instructor Training Program, Takayuki Mikami, became the Chief Instructor of Louisiana Karate Association. Sensei Mikami brought his immense knowledge and experience to LKA and continues to do so to this day.

Doug has been one of Sensei Mikami's longest continuously training students. He has traveled to Japan to train several times and has a comprehensive understanding of techniques and concepts which he is able to convey to youth through training drills and individualized attention. Doug will work with your child to develop proper karate techniques, while having fun and learning the rewards of diligent practice in the art.

Karate is a traditional Japanese martial art which develops physical power and mental focus through training blocks, strikes, kicks & body movement. It's a moving meditation which teaches us to clear our minds and be fully present. This empowers us to steadfastly pursue our endeavors outside the training hall as well.

Your child will develop confidence, discipline & self-defense skills while having fun. Children learn to block, punch, kick & more with proper form, speed & power. Student practice kata (forms), a series of set movements to defend against imaginary attackers. Students work together to practice techniques & develop communication, respect & teamwork.
