Blue Mudd Charters
Come join me for the fly fishing adventure of a lifetime. I'm John West and I'll be your host as we fish and explore the Mississippi River delta, south of New Orleans. The focus of the fishery is redfish, giant bull redfish. Nothing compares to the thrill of watching 30 pound redfish crawling, backing, and tailing on super clear skinny water flats of the Mississippi River delta.

Most days these fish will readily eat just about any fly cast in front of them. That's not to say these fish are easy, though. It takes quick accurate casts to get the fly in front of the fish. We also have the opportunity to target oversized black drum, and the illustrious sheephead. Better known as the Cajun permit.

About
Report
At Blue Mudd Fly Fishing we specialize in fly fishing for bull redfish in the marsh and estuaries surrounding New Orleans. We cater to both fly fishing and light tackle enthusiasts, but adhere to a catch and release policy on all trips. Growing up as a Florida native, fishing was always my first priority from exploring local lakes for bass to fishing the flats of West Central Florida.

2019 has been a year of records for the Mississippi River in Louisiana. This year marks the first time the Bonnet Carre spillway has been open in consecutive years. Not only that, 2019 marks the first time in history the Bonnet Carre has been opened twice in the same year. When open to capacity, up to 250,000cfs of water is diverted from the river into Lake Ponchatrain.
