Northern Wings Aviation was established by Jim Ortman in Bozeman, MT. 2010. We fly charters throughout the western United States, offer flight instruction and maintain a strong focus on natural resources aviation in support of wildlife surveys and fighting forest fires. Our pilots have a variety of experience.
Jim spent a decade flying the Alaskan bush followed by 25 years in the airlines; a career which culminated as captain flying international operations on the Boeing 747. Steve has experience in all aspects of aviation including helicopters, bush flying and heavy jets. Gary, Clark and Andrew all had distinguished airline careers before returning to their roots in small aircraft.

With the Aero Commander, we provide a USFS Type 1 platform for aerial fire fighting working with ATGS professionals, all of whom would be available as references upon request. The Cessna is a Type 2 platform, and an excellent fire detection and resource reconnaissance aircraft. Our pilots are experienced and ready to go on short notice.
Wildlife Research

Our Husky is a powerful and capable wildlife survey platform. This aircraft, with a 180 hp engine paired to an MT performance prop, offers the highest power to weight ratio in it's class. Important modifications to our ship include vortex generators for improved low speed performance and a tuned exhaust for more power and much better cockpit heat.
