In 1905, John H. Lanigan founded his funeral home, operating from an office on Cable Avenue in East Pittsburgh. At that time, all funerals were conducted from residences. In 1914, the Lanigan Funeral Home was located at 658 Linden Avenue, next to the Union Railroad Building. She contracted to build the funeral home at its present location in 1937 and in 1938, the Lanigan Funeral Home was opened at 700 Linden Avenue.
John G. "Jack" Lanigan, the only child of John H. and Bridget, returned home after World War II to operate the funeral home. He was a 1937 graduate of Duquesne University and a 1938 graduate of the Cincinnati School of Embalming. He served as a funeral director until his death in 1963. Upon Jack's death, his wife, Emily Thomas Lanigan, became a Licensed Funeral Director and served until her death in 1975.

Family Survey Results
Report
Since 2000, we have been sending a survey to each and every family we serve, in order to evaluate our service. Most of those families have responded to our request for input. That is a considerably high percentage for this type of survey. Most have answered all of the questions, but some folks only completed portions of the survey.
Pursuit of Excellence Award
Report
The Pursuit of Excellence Award is an annual achievement program that is administered by the National Funeral Directors Association. Since 1996, our funeral home has achieved the Pursuit of Excellence Award every year. In 2017, only 167 firms of over 8,000 member firms received the award, and we are one of six Pennsylvania firms to receive it.
Our Crematory
Report
As we observed an increasing interest of cremation by the general public, we also learned that folks feel more secure when cremation is done on-site at a funeral home's own crematory. So, the families we serve can have more peace-of-mind knowing that their loved one is not leaving the care of our funeral home and staff.
