In 1957, Carl Gillette started the Gillette Motel. It began as a simple six rooms alongside his family home. Raising the family with two businesses - Gillette Motel and Gillette Plumbing and Heating/Air Conditioning - kept all involved very busy. As Gatlinburg continued to grow up around them, Gillette also continued adding to the Motel, until the last addition in 1974 brought it to where it is today.
