Music is a universal part of the human experience. It stimulates the intellect and stirs the emotions. Some of our most enjoyable social experiences are formed around experiencing music, but it can be just as pleasurable in solitude. An education in music provides enrichment for a lifetime! My goal is to provide a well-rounded education in music that will enhance a student's musical experiences for a lifetime.
I love music history and theory, science, and storytelling, and I use that passion to cultivate an understanding of music that goes beyond rote learning or imitation and gives the student the knowledge and confidence to engage with music independently, as a performer, a creator, and as an informed listener.

Often the first question I get from a prospective student is "Where exactly are you?" It's an important consideration, when you are planning your child's (or your own) activities! You need to know how long it will take you to get here, and I want students who are going to have good attendance, which is why I gracefully decline requests if someone is thinking of driving from across town.

And don't tell the kids, but adults are secretly my favorite students. Adult students are intellectually curious--if they weren't they wouldn't be learning music, and that makes them a good fit with my teaching style. I'm a geek out on music history and theory and really enjoy teaching about different styles of music and how music works, not just how to play or sing.

Learning to play the piano isn't just learning to type on a different keyboard! Beginning music students are learning to differentiate basic concepts like high and low and loud and soft, but they move QUICKLY into learning intervals (how far apart two pitches are) and different kinds of chords.
Being able to recognize these sounds accurately leads to a much faster process of learning music, since the student will be able to check their work instantly based on the sound they produce, and it leads to a deeper understanding of all music, as a listener and as a performer.
