Showcase Music Institute was founded by local musician and teacher Jim Bruno shortly after Guitar Showcase was born in 1965, and has sat across the parking lot from the showroom since its beginning. Since then, we've grown exponentially - currently, we have 14 experienced instructors teaching everything from piano and flute to heavy metal guitar.

Teachers

Terry has over 40 years' experience playing many styles of music, with a focus on Rock, Blues and Classical. His virtuosic approach to the guitar is based on classical piano technique: according to Terry, "It's all in the fingers." He also stresses music theory, improvisation, and practice methods.

Peter Block

Report

Peter has been teaching for over 20 years, and many of his students have achieved top positions in honor bands and orchestras. He has performed or recorded with the Helios Ensemble, guitarist Pat Martino, percussionist Zakir Hussain, drummer Walfredo Reyes Jr., guitarist Larry Coryell, and others. Peter teaches classical and jazz styles, emphasizing fundamentals, technique, performance, tone production, theory, ear-training, and improvisation.

Workshops

The SMI facilities are temporarily closed due to California's Shelter In Place order, so monthly workshops are cancelled until further notice. However, most of our teachers are doing remote lessons, so feel free to contact your instructor to find out how to continue your lessons online! This workshop focuses on the techniques and styles of popular artists in the hard rock and heavy metal genres.
