Metal Allergy Problems

Increasing awareness of metal allergies has raised concerns within the orthopaedic field for our patients receiving joint replacement implants. While statistically it is unlikely that a patient will have an "allergy" to one or more of these materials, it is more common than once thought. Hypersensitivities to nickel may be present in up to 15% of the population.
