The Clifton Hotel - in Clifton Arizona - was built in 1890 and is beautifully renovated. Once a cowboy hotel (some say haunted hotel), it is located next to the San Francisco River and surrounded by steep mountain cliffs. The hotel changed hands several times over the years, and various owners attempted different reconfigurations, including some combined rooms and dropped ceilings.
In addition to being a cowboy hotel, the property was used as a halfway house, a home for children in transition, and apartments. The hotel was filled with silt from the nearby San Francisco River and was strewn with debris. It seemed an impossible task to clean up the mess and so was essentially abandoned at that time.
