Acupuncture places very small needles at certain points along paths in your body. Those paths are called channels (or meridians) and to understand how they work, it can be helpful to think of them as rivers running through a landscape (your body). In your body's rivers, there is a vital energy or force called qi (say 'chee') which runs through them, much like water in a river.
