Chatham Moving & Storage's roots evolved out of World War I. Our founder, Eugene (EP) P. Sacco Sr., after serving in the quartermaster corps, realized that the gas engine and trucks would launch the freight industry. At the time, horse and wagon did most of the transport. EP started by hauling limestone block into New York City for construction of the buildings in lower Manhattan.
Soon after, he purchased a Packard with a 15 foot body. In 1924, he hired his first employee and concentrated on making household and industrial moving his business. Trips took him to Boston and Cape Cod. Since the trucks did not have heat, he would drape his legs with a canvas cover and stick a lantern between his feet!
