Dr. Juliane Zenn is a Board certified adult and adolescent psychiatrist with more than 28 years experience in the treatment of eating disorders. She received her BA from the Johns Hopkins University and her MD from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where she also completed her psychiatric internship and residency, serving as Chief Resident at the Bronx Psychiatric Center in her final year.

It is perfectly normal to feel unhappy, depressed or sad sometimes. However, when these feelings do not want to go away and last for long period of times, you may be suffering from clinical depression or another mood disorder and should seek clinical help. Today there is no reason to have to suffer from the debilitating effects of depression.
Binge Eating Disorder

When a person has a binge eating disorder they eat very large amounts of food, and feel that they are unable to control their eating habits. This happens to most people every now and then, but when truly excessive overeating happens many times the person has a binge eating disorder.

Symptoms of binge eating include: feeling that your eating is out of control; eating when you're not hungry; eating until you are physically uncomfortable; eating large quantities of food for a long period of time, such as two hours; eating in secret; feeling depressed or ashamed about your eating; and frequent dieting to try to offset the binging.
Other Eating Disorders Anorexia Nervousa, Bulimia Nervousa

Two of the most common eating disorders are anorexia and bulimia. These potentially life-threatening disorders often originate in the teenage or young adult years. They are much more likely to develop in females. The precise cause of eating disorders is unknown, but they have often been connected to issues of low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and even substance abuse.
