Sonitrol Security Systems of Buffalo, Inc., now known as Sonitrol WNY, was founded in 1976 by David Jones and Paul Nickel, who met three years prior while working for Hilti Fastening Systems.
Sonitrol of Buffalo was a start up, during the era of dedicated telephone line subscriber products. In the early Sonitrol years, the product line consisted solely of their flagship audio technology. From 1976 through 1988 the company was headquartered at One Marine Midland Center (now HSBC Center), and transitioned to multiplex and digital communication while integrating central station managed access control.
