Our team at Valley Foot Care believes that informed patients are better prepared to make the best decisions for their overall health. Therefore, we have created a comprehensive patient education library, which includes articles about various podiatry topics. Learn more about Peripheral Neuropathy and the latest methods of early diagnosis and treatment by watching the educational video to the right.
Ankle Sprain
Report
Ankle sprains account for 40% of all injuries in sports and 10% of all musculoskeletal injuries in the general population. Ruptured ligaments require a minimum of 1 year to restore original mechanical strength. An ankle sprain is when the ligaments in your ankle are stretched (strained) or torn (sprained).
Diabetes and Your Feet
Report
Diabetes can have profound effects upon the feet. Elevated sugar levels can result in damage to the fatty insulation (known as myelin) surrounding nerves that supply the feet. This may result in altered sensation to the feet with feelings such as tingling, shooting pains and complete numbness. This condition is known as neuropathy.
Selecting Shoes
Report
Our feet change size with time and should be measured each time before buying shoes. Our ligaments become relaxed and areas of bony prominence, such as bunions and hammer toes, may change with time. The first dimension of a shoe is the length, which is from heel to toe. Leave about a inch between the end of your longest toe and the end of the shoe.
