Big things happen from small beginnings. My husband Sean and I grew up in Forest Lake. Sean's father was a Driver's Ed instructor which inspired Sean's BIG DREAM of opening a Driving School. He told a few people of his dream and was immediately discouraged! People said "Good Luck, we already have a program here in Forest Lake!" Instead of being discouraged, Sean chose to rise above it.
When he was 21, he received his instructor's license! He worked for a few schools in the metro area gaining the experience he needed. He finally had an opportunity to go back and work for the same local driving school he attended when he was 15 years old. The same school where we met when we first took Driver's Ed.

Classroom Training&behind The Wheel

Students under 18 must complete 30 hours of in class instruction before they are able to take the permit test. Once the 30 hours of classroom is complete RAD will issue a "Blue slip". Students will take the blue slip to the DMV as proof of course completion in order to take the permit test. Once your child passes the permit test at the DMV they can drive with someone over the age of 21.

For this option a driver will meet you at the testing location in order for you to use our vehicle for the test. The driver that meets you is responsible for returning the vehicle back to our offices. Right Away Driving can schedule this for you, or you are able to schedule the test on your own. Adult Training

ALL adult students must have at least 10 hours of drive time before taking a behind the wheel with Right Away Driving School. You will need a valid instruction permit before scheduling a lesson. One-on-one class sessions take place at our main location in Forest Lake on Highway 97. Call 651-253-7977 to make an appointment.

Once a student has finished the 30 hours of classroom, they will need to go and take their permit exam. They will need to bring these 5 things with them:. The Class D knowledge tests are only available at the DVS exam stations. Once a student has a valid permit, we find that it is best if they drive with their parents for a few weeks before scheduling the first B-T-W lesson.
