Foot and ankle trauma describes any number of injuries sustained by the foot and the ankle, including but not limited to sprains. Diabetic foot and wound care is extremely important in order to avoid serious foot ulcers.

Ankle sprains occur when the foot twists unexpectedly, tearing the ligaments on the outside of the ankle. It's a very common injury and can happen when walking on an uneven surface, participating in sports, running, or falling down. When the ankle is twisted or rolled to the side an ankle sprain can occur.
Athlete's Foot & Fungal Infections

There are different types of fungal infections and Athlete's Foot is one of them. It usually begins between the toes and includes an itchy scaly rash. It occurs commonly with people who walk barefoot through locker rooms, public showers, swimming pools or steam baths, or who become sweaty while wearing tight fitting shoes.
Heel Spurs

A heel spur is an abnormal bony outgrowth caused by calcium deposits on the bone in the heel. A heel spur can be located at the back of the heel, under the heel or beneath the sole of the foot. Heel spurs may or may not cause pain. Sometimes the pain they cause is confused with plantar fasciitis (jump link to section on this condition), a condition that inflames the tissue that stretches from the ball of the foot to the heel.
Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitisthe inflammation of a thick band of tissue that connects the heel bone to the toes and runs across the bottom of the foot. Plantar Fasciitis causes pain in the heel of your foot when you first stand up in the morning. Once you walk around for a while, the pain usually subsides, but it may return after long periods of standing or sitting.

Foot and ankle trauma describes any number of injuries sustained by the foot and the ankle, including but not limited to sprains, tendon ruptures, fractures, and dislocations. Foot and ankle trauma can also include fractures that have not healed well, or in the proper position. Contusions are bruises that crush the underlying muscle fibers and connective tissue without breaking the skin.
