About Us
Report
Our primary goal is to assist parents with the development of their child; physically, emotionally, spiritually, and cognitively. Our process includes providing a safe and stimulating environment where nurturing, learning, exploring, and enrichment are integral components. The Academy of Young Scholars curriculum provides each child with active experiences which are extended through language and non-verbal representation.

We talk to each infant - babies who are talked to in meaningful, responsive ways have a larger vocabulary at age two than babies who have had only minimal verbal stimulation. We describe what the baby is doing and looking at as we encourage her to use her senses to explore the world around her. The more she does the more she has to communicate about.

Independence - these mobile toddlers often seem more grown up than they really are. They are fast on their feet, good climbers, starting to become toilet trained, and their memory is improving. They understand many words and can say quite a few clearly. Their self-control is very limited and they are self-centered.

We stimulate language development - making sure our language is very clear, are very specific with directions, articulate words clearly, match language to child's level, teach time and space words, and keep talk and attitudes toward language positive. We provide opportunities for the development of self-help skills - pulling on clothing, feeding self, and toilet training are emphasized in this class.

We introduce cognitive skills to the preschoolers, such as matching, sequencing, and one-to-one correspondence. They hone in on language art skills such as process writing and storytelling. Preschoolers are encouraged to progress as their own pace according to their individual needs and abilities. Centers provide opportunities for children to develop self-confidence, decision making, and self-reliance.
